What's Your Reaction to Technology in the Real Estate Business?

real estate technologyThis weeks AgentsBoost post is from an incredible mentor and coach of mine, Jon Cheplak.

Jon and I connected a few years ago after I subscribed to his online training programs.

His material was so powerful that I reached out and hired Jon for coaching right away.

In my first coaching session with Jon I had more ideas than I could have ever asked for.  This guys discipline, focus, transparency and authenticity is what I love most.

His "get it done" and crush it attitude is contagious and I am blessed to know him and have him as my mentor and friend. He is the author of a new book "Interrupt the Pattern" which is so good and a must read for us.

Check out what Jon has for us below...

Thanks Wade...

Technology showed up in the real estate industry and the first reaction was fear...

“Is it here to push me out of the business?”

This was a reality for many agents throughout the real estate industry.  Many still function in that space of fear with the mechanical forces that are a big part of an industry based in human relationships.

Well here’s the good news, technology is here to keep you in the business if you embrace it and continually stay engaged in the expectations of today’s internet empowered consumer.

How to Introduce Technology into Your Business as a REALTOR

The most critical step you must take as an agent is to pause and stop chasing the next bright shiny object, magic pill, or silver bullet.  The first suggestion I make to almost all the people I get to coach is to not take on any new strategies, tactics, or implement any tools in your business for the next 90 days.

Step back and evaluate where your business functions are incomplete, maybe where you got excited about something new, took some action, but then abandoned quickly because you didn’t get a result soon enough or were distracted by something new.

Here’s what I find in most cases, whether it’s a productive agent or an agent struggling:  All the parts to a Ferrari are sitting  on the garage floor and you have no idea how to put them together or worse, you have all the parts, the instructions, but have failed to take action.

The growth of your real estate business is inside your business, not outside your business.

In most, if not all cases, you have all the tools, training, and skill-sets to experience growth in your business today.  Revisit what you have attempted and abandoned or have yet to attempt and never took action.

Commit to the action steps you need to take, find someone to hold you accountable, and interact with those that are having success in the areas you know you need to act and have not.

Measure everything you do, you must mix the science in with artful nature of this relationship based business.

If you want to grow your business, the first step is to take action with what you have on a consistent and committed basis, instead of continuing to allow yourself to be distracted by the next bright, shiny object.

What you will also find is technology is not only here to keep you in the business, it’s here to help you grow your business.  Based on your measurement of what has worked and what has not worked, adjust your strategy and continue moving forward.

  • Take Action
  • Measure
  • Evaluate
  • Optimize
  • Take Action

This is the process.
