As A Realtor When Should I Hire an Assistant?
Learn the “Realtors 3D Technique”… Do I do this?… Do I delegate this?… Do I dump this?
So many times I am asked the question “when is it time for me to get an assistant?”
Before I discuss identifying the right time to get an assistant, let’s briefly start by identifying the personality types in the world.
There are only 4…
Driver… Expressive… Amiable… Analytical.
Drivers in real estate are the movers and shakers, they are the self motivators and go getters that are incredibly impatient and fire before readying or aiming.
Expressives in real estate are the agents that live for the experience and everything we do needs to be fun and unique. They normally are incredibly unorganized and not systematized.
Amiables are the type that like security, socially introverted, not risk takers and tend to be an employee and not self employed. They don’t tend to be real estate agents as a profession but would be a candidate for an assistant.
The Analytical is detailed, systematized and takes time to process. They are very organized and make another great candidate for an assistant.
Personally I believe the analytical with a mix of expressive and a dash of amiable are the best mix for a personal assistant.
Now that we have identified who you are as an agent and your personality type, what would be the ideal personality type to compliment you?
What I find with most top producing agents is they want to hire an assistant just like them and their personality type.
They just like them right away…
HOWEVER the reality is, most agents need to hire the opposite personality type that bring support, systems, delegation and organizational skills to the table and socially can interact with their clients and service them.
Take the time to identify your personality profile and what your strengths are and then where you could use the help and support to balance your business.
As a “driver – expressive” myself I know I am a starter and not a finisher. I am constantly implementing new ideas and bringing in new business but my assistant organizes, finishes, and systematizes and most important, manages it all for me.
I do what I do best and they do what they do best to balance a good business model.
I discovered from the last 20 years in real estate when you become bogged down with the systems, organizing and administration of your business you don’t have the time to see the people, prospect, present, show, negotiate and generate business because the administration is holding you back from what you do best.
If this is speaking to you right now, then you know… It Is TIME!
You will find your business plateau and in most cases decreases because we can only do so much in a day.
One of my real estate mentor’s taught me the 3D technique in real estate… For every activity in your day ask yourself these questions…
Do I do this?
Do I delegate this?
Do I dump this?
Measure each activity as a $100-$200 activity (this is what I Do)
For example lead and referral generation, listing and buyer and offer presentations, showing homes, price reductions and negotiating sales. Here is my list that I identified as important but not an “I Do” activity and I delegated to something (system) or someone (assistant) that could do this activity for $10-$40 an hour.
I think most agents are surprised how many activities are on this list and how much you do that could easily be delegated.

The rest of the real estate activities I would just dump and determine it just wasn’t that important.
I can tell you that taking time to identify your personal profile and finding something or someone to take care of the majority of the low and middle dollar activity will allow you to break through to another level in your business and give you more time for yourself.
It amazes me how many of us would choose to save a nickel and do it all rather than generating more income and having more time in life.
I speak from personal experience and honestly as a control freak with my business, that having something or someone else doing these activities only 80% as good as I think I would do them, is FANTASTIC and just let it go!!
I trust you will make that leap of faith and start 3D ing your business today.
Strength and courage,
Wade
